I finished the article, but not at all to my satisfaction. If I had had a month of uninterrupted work to bestow upon it, I think I could have produced something of real value. As it is I turn out a crude fragment indicating the lines of an argument but not really setting forth the argument itself. Haste, and all that haste implies, inadequacy of illustration, lack of finish &c, marks all my work. I live in a squalid hustle really, though I reside in the depths of the country! Binstead from Mordiford lunched here, & afterwards went round the garden & counselled us as to the fruit trees it would be advisable to plant in the vacant places whence the old barren ones had been removed.
