Friday, January 31st, 1919.
A hard frost with a slight snow–fall. Bitterly cold. At Lambeth all day, where I again "spoke unadvisedly with my lips", and drew odium upon myself. Gore was at his worst, & I "went for" him too roughly. At tea, the Abp. asked me about Lilley, as a possible Canon of Westminster. I spoke strongly in his favour.
