Last night at midnight the railway officials here went on strike to show their disapproval of their Union leaders in making an arrangement with the Government! "Labour" now carries itself as an independent power negociating with the national government, & insisting upon separate representation at the Congress which is to end the War. It is a situation, theoretically monstrous & practically intolerable. Mr Edwards, Vicar of Kimbolton, lunched here. Ella, Kitty & Crawfurd went with me to Hardwick, where I preached at the Harvest Festival. After service we had tea with the Vicar, Rev. M. F. Harper. I was charmed with his children, Eileen & Paul. On our way home we left cards at Garnons, but Sir John Cotterill & Lady Evelyn were away. I worked on this hapless lecture for King's College.
