Wednesday, August 21st, 1918.

A brilliant but very hot day. I wrote letters in the garden, and read Streeter's volume all the morning. In the afternoon my nephew Harold arrived: he is spending a fortnight's leave from the front. After tea Ella and I took him for a walk along the sands as far as Minnis Bay, and came back along the cliffs.
