Yesterday there arrived from the publishers, with a note indicating that D. Beauchamp was the donor, a small volume of extraordinary interest –––– "Christine", by Alice Cholmondeley. It consists of the letters sent by Christine Cholmondeley to her mother during the two months preceding the outbreak of the War from Berlin where she was living as a musical student. These letters provide a vivid and amazing revelation of the state of mind in Germany, out of which the War grew.

The Bishop of Chester sends me a re–print of Bishop Dowden's Address to his Diocesan Synod delivered on my Birthday (!) 1900, "Define your terms, Counsels to the clergy in the Study of the Eucharistic Controversy". It is excellent.
