1467th day
This morning, feeling considerably better, I picked up the string of my purpose, and determined to go to London "according to plan". Accordingly, I made the necessary dispositions – called at the bank and supplied myself with funds for travelling, tore up many letters, gave a variety of directions to Norcock & Bateman, bade farewell to the Nurse, etc. – and then went to London with Ella by the 4 p.m. express via Gloucester. It brought me to Paddington at 8.50 p.m. We put up for the night at the G.W.R. Hotel, & were fairly comfortable, though the hotel appeared to be very full. The evening paper contained good news of the offensive undertaken by Sir D. Haig.
