I worked till lunch time at a sermon for S. Sepulchre's on April 1st. The subject will be the reasons & the significance of the failure of Lutherism. It is not very easy to find a suitable text. I attended Evensong, & did my duty (after a fashion) at the Universities' Lodge. It is wonderful and amazing that I cannot carry in my head the phrases of the Freemason's ritual. On my way home I called on Dr Greenwell, & talked with him for 20 minutes. The old man was more alert than I have yet seen him. He was very gloomy about the War.
The weather today has been bright but cold. As the land gets drier agriculture becomes possible.
