952nd day

A most beautiful day, though there was sharp frost last night. I celebrated at 8 a.m. Harold went away by the early train. I was busy all the morning completing a copy of my C.T. sermon – a tiresome business indeed. Ella & I walked out together in the afternoon.

The papers report the Fall of Baghdad. It seems to have been a fine achievement on the part of General Maude. The "Times" contains a long account of the City, and a resumé of its romantic history. I read this aloud to Ella after dinner.
