I spent the morning in going through Bishop Hall's 'Works', and noted the Dedications. They contain some very good stuff. General English and a Major came to lunch, and went over the Cathedral with me afterwards. Stokes also lunched ostensibly to talk over the report on the Choristers' School: but the soldiers crowded him out. After a walk with Logic, I had tea: & the Ella & I went to the Mayor's Chamber, where a meeting had been convened to provide entertainment for the troops. I promised to subscribe £5. to the fund. Ernest arrived about midnight.
