872nd day

I went to the Bank, & procured a supply of half–crowns for Christmas Boxes: also I paid in the quarterly cheque, & deposited my text–book. Then I interviewed the agent of the Norwich Union Fire Insurance S.S., & paid the premium (£10.16.9) on a new policy for my motor–car. Then I charged Mr Browne [Brown] to arrange for the carting of the coal from Elvet Station. I wrote to Frank, and to Lord Bryce. Also, I attended Mattins & Evensong. Linetta arrived at tea–time. I feretted out from my book–shelves volumes which would serve as Christmas presents for the Minor Canons, & some others, having resolved to make as small fresh expenditure as possible on that matter. Instead we are sending half–a–crown apiece to the alms–men & occupiers of the Alms–houses.
