779th day

A beautiful but chilly morning, with a dank autumnal mist over everything. James and I breakfasted at 8 a.m., and motored into Edinburgh where we parted. I travelled by the 10 a.m. express to Newcastle and then changed into the train for Durham, where I arrived shortly before 2 p.m. After lunch I attended a meeting in the Mayor's Parlour, convened in the interest of war–saving. Mr Chambers made a lucid, informing, and not uninteresting speech. I moved a resolution and made 'a few remarks' in doing so. Then I took Logic for a little walk: finally I wrote a sheaf of letters.
