Wednesday in Holy Week, April 19th, 1916.

625th day

A wet, depressing day. I celebrated in the Cathedral at 8 a.m. After breakfast I worked at my Good Friday Sermon, & finished it, being, however, much handicapped by a persistent head–ache. The Mayor called to say that he had arranged for the public reception of the German cannon on Tuesday next. After lunch the Caröes left. In the evening I read "King Lear" to my family.
