Gee called in the forenoon to tell me that the Prime Minister had offered him the Deanery of Ripon, and that he had declined it on account of the great extent of garden connected with the residence house, and also of the prospect of much work among the soldiers who are to be encamped near Ripon in considerable numbers. I attended Evensong and then went with Lillingston to Finchale Priory. On my return I wrote letters to Ella & Carissima. I succeeded in finishing the Huguenot sermon, but not at all to my own contentment. It is too long, disconnected, and verbose!
