I shewed Gerald over the Castle. It would be difficult to find a parallel to our Durham buildings. After Evensong there was another recruiting meeting in the Market Place. In spite of the rain there was a considerable gathering. Lord Durham spoke & I followed him. Hill the Member for the City, & Galbraith, the miners' member also spoke. Wilkinson & his wife, Culley & his wife, & Miss Christopher came to dinner.
