I worked at the article but to small purpose. Boutflower lunched here; he is very anxious to preserve the independence of his Mastership. We went together to the Governors' meeting, where for two hours we discussed the new scheme. Afterwards I wrote to Chancellor Smith asking his counsel on the provisions which define the Master's position & functions, and pressing him to attend the adjourned meeting of the Governors. After dinner I wrote to Jack Boden.
