The 'National Intercession' services in the Cathedral were very successful, if that expression may be tolerated. At 8 a.m. I celebrated the Holy Communion, & there was a fair number of communicants: at 3 p.m. the Cathedral was thronged for the special service. The Bishop preached with astonishing vigour of voice & gesture. His discourse was very effectively expressed, though its stand–point was rather archaic. The clergy from the diocese attended in considerable number.
