231st day

A most beautiful morning with a white frost, which soon vanished before the sun. Mary and Dr Bonney went away by the 9.50 train. At M.'s request I wrote to Alan Radford, congratulating him on his approaching marriage. After the departure of our guests Ella and I strolled in the garden to enjoy the sunshine, & observe the rooks. Mr Pemberton & a relative came to lunch. As I was starting for a walk, I fell in with two naval men, who enquired how they could see the Cathedral. They belonged to the crew of the 'Lion', which is now again ready for use. I shewed them over both the Cathedral and the Deanery. Then I attended Evensong: and afterwards went to inquire after John Wilson. He looked almost moribund. The Fall of Przemysl is reported.
