I began to write the article for 'Edinburgh': but made very poor progress, being much interrupted by visitors. After taking Logic for a walk, I called on Dr Wilson whom I found to be in a bad way. Dr Plummer, who met me just outside the house, said that he was dying, & he said as much to Mrs Woof. After dinner I wrote to Mary, sending her a cheque for ten pounds as a wedding present: also to Jack Boden: & to Carissima. I wrote to Alderman Galbraith asking him whether a service in the Cathedral would be agreeable to the family & the Miners' Association, when old John Wilson has to be buried. This letter I marked 'private'.
