Warm & windy weather. The papers report a destructive earthquake in Italy: and a Turkish invasion of Persia! I attended Mattins, and then worked in my study until Cruickshank came to talk business. After lunch C. & I walked through Houghall wood: I attended Evensong, & then wrote letters. I wrote at some length to the Archbishop of Upsala, trying to open his eyes to the English case in the War: also to Mackenzie, who writes to me from the front.
