133rd day

I took Beeching for a walk through the wood. In spite of the clouded sky, & humid atmosphere, the views were impressive. Bayley came to lunch. I wrote to Carissima, & then attended Evensong in the Cathedral. Then I summoned my resolution, & had my hair cut by the local barber! We gave a dinner–party. There were present, in addition to ourselves and our guests, the following – Bp. & Mrs Quirk, Prof: & Mrs Ellershaw, the Vice–Chancellor & Mrs Gee, Col: Grimshaw, & Major Iremonger, Miss Christopher, Mr & Mrs Cavendish. After dinner two more officers came in & some others.
