119th day

The weather continues very warm & windy: but the rain has ceased. I went to the Cathedral at 8 a.m. & received the Holy Sacrament. The Precentor celebrated. All the Canons save Knowling & Quirk: & all the minor–canons save May, were present: the congregation besides consisted of seven women. I worked at the latest draft of an Oxford Sermon. I attended Evensong in the cathedral. After dinner I read Sir John French's despatches to Ella. They bring the story of fighting up to November 12th. Also I wrote to Dicey.
