2nd Sunday after Trinity, June 21st, 1914.

I attended service at 8 a.m. Budworth celebrated. At 10.30 a.m. there was a considerable congregation. I preached a "Funeral Sermon" for Bishop Tucker: and afterwards celebrated the Holy Communion.

Miss Sauger, an American girl, & her governess came to lunch. After lunch I shewed them and the young men over the Cathedral. We all attended Evensong.

On Monday June 22nd 1914 the "Times" published a letter from me about Ulster headed "Novissima Hora".

Hutton arrived in order to receive the D.C.L. degree: also Miss Gordon Hamilton.

On Tuesday June 23rd 1914, I presented Hutton for his degree. He left Durham for Sheffield after the ceremony.

On Saturday June 27th 1914, I motored with Harold to Bp. Auckland, & there addressed an Anti–Disestablishment meeting outside the Palace Gates. I returned in time to entertain the Judges (Bray & Sankey) at dinner.
