To know, when two authorities are up,
Neither supreme, how soon confusion

The parish clergy of Durham came to lunch. They were all present except old Greenwell. The Precentor also came, & we discussed the arrangements to be made for the Children's Service on December 29th.
I attended Evensong in the Cathedral.
In the evening I presided at a public meeting in the Town Hall convoked in support of the S.P.G.. There was a good attendance, & speeches by Canon Welch & the Revd M. Headlam.
The latter said that he was the Bible clerk at All Souls when I was elected Fellow.
