S. Simon & S. Jude, Tuesday, October 28th, 1913.

I celebrated in the Cathedral at 8 a.m. Mr Bothamly came to talk about his crusade against the sale of improper literature at a stall in the market. He bored me inexpressibly! He is surely the most incompetent crusader that ever donned the Cross! He stayed to lunch.

I spent most of the afternoon at a meeting of the Council of the Durham Colleges – very dull.

Then Freeman came with his list of suppliant widows, and I appointed two of them to receive the emolument belonging to the status of a "Church Widow".

Then the Precentor came to talk over music for Christmas.

After dinner I dictated a number of letters.
