The Chapter Meeting was attended by but three canons, Tucker & Knowling being absent. Nevertheless we went forward with the business, & decided to accept tenders for the new school house, although the cost will not amount to less than £10, 000. The Chapter approved the project of restoring the crypt of the Deanery, and promised to grant a loan, if the requisite consents were obtained.

Lord Chelmsford and his wife arrived during the afternoon: also Raleigh. The Archdeacon & Mrs Watkins, and Cruickshank & his wife came to dinner, also Miss Watkins.
