S. Edward's Day, Friday, October 13th, 1911.
I received the Holy Sacrament in S. Edward's Chapel from the hands of the Dean. Afterwards I wrote to the 'Times' a letter on the Welsh Disendowment Bill, headed "An Appeal to Nonconformists".
In the afternoon I attended Evensong in the Abbey, & heard an excellent sermon from Watson. He came in to tea afterwards, & showed me a type–written document from Scott–Holland suggesting drastic changes in the Theological system of the University. Ostensibly conceived in the most liberal spirit, it was really nothing more than a clever attempt to capture for the neo–sacerdotalists the whole machinery of the C. of E. in Oxford.
