~~Learning and grace do not always keep company together: yea, O Lord, how many are there that have a depth of knowledge, yet are not soul wise! That have a library of Divinity in their heads, & not so much as the least catechism in their consciences! No rare thing for men to abound in speculation, & be barren in devotion; to have full brains & empty hearts: clear judgement, & defiled affections; fluent tongues, but lame feet: yea, you shall hear a flood in the tongue, when you cannot see one drop in the life.~~

I married Mr Walrond to Mrs Richard Chamberlain. We lunched with the St Loe Strachey's [sic] in Queen Anne's Gate. Then we went to British & Foreign Bible House, & looked at the exhibition of Bibles.

Then we attended the Speaker's reception.

Finally we dined at the Royal Literary Fund Dinner. Birrell in the Chair made an excellent speech.

I said grace after dinner.
