Monday, August 15th, 1910. Pitnacree House, Ballinluig, Perthshire.
We left Kirkmichael House at 9.5 a.m.: and were motored to Lockerbie, where we got on board a Caledonian Railway's train which carried us viâ Stirling to Perth, stopping at many small stations, & arriving 20 minutes after time i.e. at 3.20 p.m. Here we had tea, and got on to a loop line (Highland Ry) which brought us to Grantully, where Mrs Glassford Bell's carriage met us; we arrived at Pitnacree about 6 p.m. The country looked bewitching in the lights of a bright evening.
This morning's newspapers announce the deaths of (1) Lord Spencer, (2) Lord Amherst, (3) Justice Walton, (4) Sir Fleetwood Edwards: and (greater than all of the rest put together) (5) Florence Nightingale. I do not remember so many fatal announcements in one issue.
