Convocation began its sessions. A dull discussion of the Poor Law Commission's Report: &, in the afternoon an abjectly futile educational debate, in the course of which I made a brief & pointless speech.
I dined with Butcher at the House of Commons. Murray Butler, Rawlinson, Butcher the Member for York, Sir Alfred Lyall, & Mr Sydney Colvin formed the rest of the company. We had much interesting conversation.
