Good Friday, March 25th, 1910.
A beautiful day. At 8 a.m. I read one of Church's 'Village Sermons' to a congregation of five women! At 11 a.m. the congregation was disappointingly small, but the Offertory (Waifs & Strays & Refuge Work) was more than £15. I preached on Pontius Pilate. The service – Mattins, Litany, Ante–Communion, Sermon & five hymns – lasted nearly two hours.
After a solitary lunch, (for Ella still keeps her room) I walked to the 'Times' Office & left the usual précis of the discourse.
