Passion Sunday, March 13th, 1910.

A bright beautiful morning. There were 21 comts at 8 a.m. including Sir Hy Craik.

There was a large congregation at Mattins. The 2nd lesson contained S. Mark's record of the cursing of the Barren Fig–tree. I took the opportunity thus provided, and preached on that topic, repudiating the historicity of the narrative, & explaining it by the parable in S. Luke.

After service Mr Turnbull came to see me. His enthusiasm for S. Margaret's is refreshing.

The Church was again well–filled at Evensong, when I continued my course of Lenten preaching. My subject was, 'The claim of Christ in society'. In the congregation I observed Sir Edward Russell.
