Bishop Mann was at the station to welcome us. In the house we found letters, I forthwith wrote to Pearce, Sir Henry Craik, and Bishop Spalding. The latter had written to invite us to visit Utah, & study the Mormons. A telegram from Seattle invited me to lecture on "Westminster Abbey" in connection with the Exposition, offering a fee of 200 dollars.
We witnessed a very credible performance of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in the Fargo theatre. The absence of the elaborate stage properties now common in England was novel & pleasing.
