We first went to the photographer, & were photographed. Then I attended the meeting of the Congress, & listened to some speeches on 'The possible contribution of Oriental thought to present–day Christianity'.

In the afternoon we motored to the Cambridge Divinity School, and attended the garden party. This institution is unique among theological colleges, for it is governed by a board of 7 laymen, and turns out a liberal type of clergyman.

The old Bishop of Albany (Doane) dined here. I sat by him, & had some conversation on the subject of union. He said that Gore wrecked the report at Lambeth. He surmised that his illness must have had an ill–effect on him: & that, being at Lambeth, he wielded a sinister influence on the Archbishop.

After dinner we attended the Congress, where "Psychotherapy as an aid in pastoral work" was discussed. I made a short & hostile speech. The sympathies of the audience were quite clearly with this faith–healing craze.
