All Saints Day, Tuesday. November 1st, 1904.
Kirshbaum celebrated. There were 15 communicants. I made a vain attempt to see Caröe, the architect, who has designed that hapless Farrar monument. Then I saw the Dean with reference to the dinner. Thus my morning was frittered away, but I succeeded in reading through Bevan's interesting sketch, ‘Jerusalem under the High Priests'.
In the afternoon I travelled to Oxford in order to attend the Gaudy. In the train I read through most part of Bp. Ryle's little book on "Criticism & the Old Testament". It is timely & honest. In Hall I sat next Lang, and was churlish to him.
