Thursday, October 29th, 1902.

I attended the installation of the new Canon, my friend Beeching. In the Jerusalem Chamber after he had been duly placed in his seat, the Dean made a statement as to his intentions on certain points.

  1. He would adopt the Eastward position, as had been his practice while Canon.
  2. He would order the lectern to be made reversible so that the Canons might read the R.V. if they so desired.
  3. He would relieve the Canons on Sunday mornings for reasonable cause, but not during the week.

All this seems to me excellent.
