I attended the installation of the new Canon, my friend Beeching. In the Jerusalem Chamber after he had been duly placed in his seat, the Dean made a statement as to his intentions on certain points.
- He would adopt the Eastward position, as had been his practice while Canon.
- He would order the lectern to be made reversible so that the Canons might read the R.V. if they so desired.
- He would relieve the Canons on Sunday mornings for reasonable cause, but not during the week.
All this seems to me excellent.
